A New Mind-Control Game: Mindflex
Mindflex is a new mind-control game by Mattel that is set to be released in October of this year. Never have I heard of a game like this! You put a device on your head that reads your concentration levels to power a fan that levitates a ball. You then move the ball through various obstacles. Hard to believe? Well, apparently this really works. Dale Yu over at Board Game News actually owns the game and wrote a review. You can see a video of the game in action at the official website I must admit that I'm going to have to buy this game when it's released. The novelty factor is just too high. But beyond that, it actually looks really fun. In Dale's review he mentions that even his young kids can play as well. This idea seems so intriguing to me. Can this technology be used to help kids learn to concentrate better? I'm not sure if there's a practical application, but it strikes me that the ability to quickly change your state of concentration could be a very valuable skill to learn for both kids and adults. Not long ago I read a book that talked about what they call "mental resilience" which is what this game seems to teach; the ability to quickly change your mental state and focus. I'm excited to see what other applications this type of technology has. This will definately go on the "to play" list for family and educational games. If any of you have happened to play this at a preview or convention, please leave your impressions in the comments.
